MP to protest river water contamination

ABOHAR: Five-time Sriganganagar MP Nihal Chand Meghwal on Saturday threatened to stage a dharna during the opening session of the new Lok Sabha against the Punjab government for failing to prevent river water contamination. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Meghwal said his top priority would be to “force” the Punjab government to prevent contamination of river water. He had recently spoken to Gajinder Singh Shekhawat (Jodhpur MP), Union Cabinet Minister for Jal Shakti, on the issue and requested him to issue strong directions to the Punjab government. OC

Nihangs held for dispute over land

Muktsar: The police on Saturday arrested some Nihangs who had come to meet the Deputy Commissioner over the dispute of 43-acre agricultural land at Gurusar village. Baba Gokal Singh said the police arrested his father Satnam Singh, brother Gurpinder Singh and others after they met the Deputy Commissioner. TNS

Two booked for raping 23-yr-old

Fazilka: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two persons at Churiwala Chisti village in the district. The woman alleged that when she was returning home at about 10 pm on June 1, two persons allegedly raped her near the dispensary of the village. Sonu Singh and Gulab Singh, residents of the same village, have been booked under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC. Both are stated to be absconding. OC

2 killed, one hurt as bikes collide

Abohar: Two persons were killed and one injured as two motorcycles collided near Gidderanwali village, 21 km from here, on Friday night. The deceased have been identified as Balwant (40) of Sayeedwala village and Pawan Kumar and the injured as Ravi. OC
