The Phillaur police arrested three kabaddi players involved in drug peddling and recovered huge quantity of intoxicants, including 1.5-kg opium, 350 intoxicant injections and 3,950 tablets, from their possession near Goraya on Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Phillaur, Davinder Singh Attri today said the arrested players were identified as Sandeep Singh alias Kala of Awaan village in Amritsar, Pargat Singh alias Vikki of Sofia village in Amritsar and Baljinder Singh of Uttarakhand.

DSP Attri said all arrested used to play for Dashmesh Kabaddi Club, Amritsar.

The DSP said Sandeep was nabbed near Rurka Khurd village at a check point. The Goraya police arrested Baljinder from near Atta village and Pargat from near Kamalpur Gate. All arrested were today produced before the Phillaur Judicial Magistrate, who sent them to police remand for two days.
