CHANDIGARH: The Punjab State Women Commission has taken a suo moto notice of the news reports in which serious aspirations were cast on the role of the police and health authorities for not conducting the medical of a rape victim even after four days of the incident.

5 hurt as bulls attack protesters

Mansa: Five women workers of MNREGA were injured when they were attacked by stray bulls at Budhladha in Mansa district on Tuesday. Four of the injured were admitted to Civil Hospital, Budhladha, while one worker, who was seriously injured, was referred to a hospital in Mansa. The workers were staging a block-level protest when suddenly stray bulls entered the protest area and attacked the workers. TNS

Three killed in road mishap

Phagwara: Three persons were killed when their car overturned, jumped over a divider and collided with a truck on the other side of the road near Karnal on Tuesday. The deceased are Manjit Kumar of Attari village and his brother-in-law Baldev Singh of Ludhiana. The identity of the driver was yet to be known. The mishap took place when they were returning to Attari from New Delhi. OC

Two crushed to death 

Muktsar: Two bike-borne persons were crushed to death by a truck on Malout Road here on Monday night. The deceased were identified as Gaurav (23), a local, and his brother-in-law Pankaj Kumar (30) of Kotkapura. Pankaj had come to meet his in-laws. Sources said they were returning to their house when the mishap occurred. The police have seized the truck, but the driver managed to escape. TNS

Document writer held for graft

Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday claimed to have nabbed a document writer while accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000. An official said Pawan Shahi, a document writer at Payal, Ludhiana district, was nabbed by a Vigilance team for accepting the bribe from complainant Paramjeet Singh of Model Town Extension, Ludhiana city. Chandigarh: The government on Tuesday appointed retired IPS officer Hardeep Singh Dhillon as chairman of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation. The government has also posted MK Tiwari (IPS) as DGP-Internal Vigilance and Managing Director of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation. TNS
