Jalandhar, May 24

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today ordered the arrest of the police personnel guilty of illegally detaining Education Provider Rajni at the Bhargo Camp police station on March 22. She had a miscarriage after she was detained.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station, who was first suspended after the controversy, was later given a clean chit. This irked the Education Provider Union, which has been holding protests since then.

Rajni’s husband Harjinder Singh Khehra said, “Finally, the Chief Minister has paid heed to our demands. We have been awaiting justice for the past two months.” Only Rajni, Khehra and Kuldeep Singh, state president of the union, were allowed to meet the Chief Minister. Khehra further said the CM also assured them that their demands regarding the regularisation of services and the release of pending salaries would be considered.

Will set up skill centres in state, says CM

Raikot: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said the state government would continue to adopt the ideologies of Maharaja Ranjit Singh to facilitate the development of the state.

He further said that besides giving equal representation to elected members of all communities in the state legislature and various governing bodies, the government would respect the sentiments of all communities. Badal said the government would raise memorials for all religions. The CM was here to unveil the Maharaja Dalip Singh Memorial at Bassian Kothi.

Maintaining that Maharaja Ranjit Singh had given equal representation to members of all communities in his ‘government’, he said the SAD-BJP alliance would continue to entrust responsibilities to elected members irrespective of their caste or community.

Earlier, Badal said the state government was poised to implement the Centre’s draft plan to teach skills to the youth. He further said that in comparison to over 80 per cent skilled population in many countries, only 12 per cent of Indians were skilled. The CM disclosed that a special report on ways and means of promoting skill and recommendations on the issue would be released before June 25. The CM announced that the state government besides implementing the skill mission of the Centre would establish skill centres in the state.

“This will make the youth self-reliant and enable their families to upgrade their economic status,” said Badal.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Sohan Singh Thandal, PWD Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, former minister Bikramjit Singh Khalsa, president of the Maharaja Dalip Singh Memorial Trust Ranjit Singh Talwandi were also present.
