Several candidates who recently appeared in the examination for selection as assistant district attorney (ADA) on Monday threatened to move court after the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) rejected their demand to reconduct the examination.

The controversy arose after the candidates alleged that the PPSC had made changes in the answer keys and awarded marks to certain “undeserving candidates” to ensure their selection.

The PPSC, on the other hand, claimed the allegations were made by “students who failed to clear the exam”.

In a statement, PPSC Secretary Jasleen Kaur Sandhu said the examination consisted of 200 questions. “Following objections by some candidates, 25 questions were forwarded to subject experts. They recommended change only in three answers. Based on their opinion, it was decided to give benefit of doubt to some candidates,” read the statement.

Parmod Sharma, who runs a training centre, said: “The PPSC should name the experts as per whom there are two correct answers to a single question. There seems to be an attempt to favour certain candidates and the matter should be probed.”

As per the PPSC: “Eleven questions are withdrawn with equal benefit to all and another 11 have been permitted two answers (either/or) to be treated as correct. When these changes took place, the PPSC had not even evaluated the papers. Therefore, the bias allegation is not only baseless, but also mischievous by students who failed to make it.”
