Shatabdi, 2 trains short-terminated

LUDHIANA: The Bharat Bandh call given by Dalit groups in protest against the demolition of Sri Guru Ravidas temple in Delhi had its fallout on the rail traffic on the Amritsar-Ludhiana-New Delhi section with three trains, including elite Swarn Shatabdi Express, being short-terminated here and commencing their return journey from Ludhiana later in the day.

The Bharat Bandh call given by Dalit groups in protest against the demolition of Sri Guru Ravidas temple in Delhi had its fallout on the rail traffic on the Amritsar-Ludhiana-New Delhi section with three trains, including elite Swarn Shatabdi Express, being short-terminated here and commencing their return journey from Ludhiana later in the day. Besides, scores of superfast, mail, express and passenger trains on various other routes were delayed or rescheduled for late departure.

According to railway officials, 12029 New Delhi-Amritsar Swarn Shatabdi Express and 12497 New Delhi-Amritsar Shan-e-Punjab Express trains, along with 14606 Nangal Dam-Amritsar Express trains were short-terminated at Ludhiana while 64523 Ambala-Ludhiana passenger train was short-terminated at Dhandari Kalan. All these three trains remained partially cancelled between Ludhiana and Amritsar and short-originated from Ludhiana on their return journey later in the day.

As many trains arriving from Amritsar side were detained at different stations en route, nearly one dozen trains were either delayed by two to more than five hours or were rescheduled for late departure due to blockade of rail tracks at various places.

11058 Amritsar-CST Mumbai (5.50 hrs), 22430 Delhi-Pathankot Superfast Express (5.45 hrs), 14649 Jaynagar-Amritsar Saryu-Yamuna Express (4.30 hrs), 12920 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Indore Malwa Express (4.10 hrs), 14617 Banmankhi-Amritsar Jansewa Express (3.50 hrs), 14674 Amritsar-Jaynagar Shaheed Express (3.40 hrs), 14673 Jaynagar-Amritsar Shaheed Express (3.20 hrs), 22446 Amritsar-Kanpur Superfast Express (3.10 hrs), 12203 Saharsa-Amritsar Garib Rath (2.45 hrs) and 12472 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Bandra Terminus Swaraj Express (2.05 hrs).
