New Delhi: India’s young paddlers stole the limelight in the Bahrain Junior and Cadet Open, clinching a rich haul of four medals — a gold, two silver and a bronze.

India’s young paddlers stole the limelight in the Bahrain Junior and Cadet Open, clinching a rich haul of four medals — a gold, two silver and a bronze. All the three Indian teams in the fray in the cadet girls’ team category entered the semifinals. Yashaswini Ghorpade and Kavya Sree Baskar beat Egypt’s Farida Badawy and Hana Goda 3-2. Suhana Saini and Anargya Manjunath beat compatriots Radhika Sakpal and Hardee Patel 3-0. In the final, Suhana and Anargya beat Yashaswini and Kavya 3-0 to clinch title.

Defending champions Punjab defeated Punjab and Sind Bank 2-0 to set up the title clash against Railways in the senior men’s hockey National Championship (Division A) here. Railways got the better of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board 5-4 in the shootout.

Bangladesh’s Shakib ruled out of New Zealand ODIs 
Bangladesh suffered a fresh injury blow ahead of next week’s ODI series against New Zealand after all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out with a finger fracture. Shakib sustained the injury to his left ring finger while batting in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League on Friday. Pacer Taskin Ahmed was earlier ruled out for the entire series with a torn ligament. The three-match ODI series starts in Napier on February 13.

Coulter-Nile suffers vertigo bout during BBL game
Nathan Coulter-Nile, who was picked this week for Australia’s ODI and T20I tour of India, was taken to hospital after a bout of vertigo during a Big Bash League game. Perth Scorchers fast bowler had delivered the fifth ball of his final over against Adelaide Strikers when he signalled that all was not well. After consulting with Perth captain Mitchell Marsh, he bowled the sixth ball, which was hit for a six, before sinking to his haunches and sitting on the ground. Scorchers physio Chris Quinnell said Coulter-Nile had suffered a “bad bout of vertigo”.
