PARIS DEADLOCK NOT TO END SOON

UNITED NATIONS, June 19, (PTI)-The UN Secretary-General, U Thant, yesterday predicted that the Paris talks on Viet Nam would be "deadlocked for a long time to come," because of the assumption by both sides that a military victory is possible. A brief report appeared yesterday. Speaking at a luncheon, given by the UN correspondents' association, he emphasised his view that a military victory or defeat was not possible. Neither could the United States be dislodged from Viet Nam by military means nor could the Viet Cong or the National Liberation Front be subdued by the United States. He reiterated his three-point formula for peace-cessation by the US bombings of North Viet Nam and all other acts of all parties in South Viet Nam.
