Bathinda, January 24

A 55-year-old man, Bashir Ahmed, resident of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir, went ‘missing’ in the city on Thursday. Kin of Bashir alleged that he was picked by the Bathinda Police and the car that ‘kidnapped’ him was a Punjab Government vehicle.

In the evening, the Bathinda Police cracked the case. IG AK Mittal said after the matter came into his notice, the police started tracing Bashir. On inquiry, they came to know that the narcotics cell of the J&K Police picked up Bashir as he was involved in a drug case registered in the state in December. The J&K Police had arrested a person in a drug case, who told the police that he obtained the drugs from Bashir, the IG added.
