Bathinda, March 29

A city-based NGO has started providing free mobile OPD services to needy persons, especially those living in slum areas. NGO members are providing them free medical services and medicines during the curfew restrictions. On Saturday evening, members of the Naujawan Welfare Society, along with Dr Vitul Gupta, reached the Dhobiana Basti area with a mini-bus carrying medical equipment and medicines to examine patients.

Dr Gupta said, “While residents living in the city can afford medicines on their doorstep, it is not possible for people living in slums. Therefore, we have started providing free-of-cost medical consultation and medicines to needy people in different parts of the city through mobile OPD services.”

Harmeet Singh, a city resident, who also volunteered for the noble cause, said, “More than 400 patients in Dhibiana Basti were not only examined but were provided with free medicines. The initiative holds significance when the life has come to a standstill amid curfew restrictions. It is the duty of responsible citizens to contribute their bit by helping needy people who have been living life on the margins.

The NGO members said free medical services would continue in the coming days in slum areas.
