Audi hits auto, 2 killed

Two persons riding an auto were killed after the vehicle was hit by a speeding Audi from the rear at the Sector 20/21 light point on the intervening night of December 12/13. The accident took place when the auto driver applied sudden brakes after a tree branch fell on the road.

The victims have been identified as auto driver Sunil Kumar (28) and passenger Basant Singh (73).

The police said the auto driver applied brakes following which the speeding Audi (Q5), which was coming from the rear side, hit the auto. The auto turned turtle and both occupants suffered serious injuries.

The Audi driver, Shivraj Singh, escaped unhurt.

The police were informed about the accident and both injured rushed to a government hospital where they succumbed to the injuries.

The police have registered a case against the Audi driver at the Sector 19 police station. He was arrested and later released on bail. Both vehicles have been impounded by the police.


Two die as auto, truck hit cycles

Chandigarh: A cyclist and a woman riding pillion on another cycle were killed in mishaps reported from the city on December 12. One of the accidents took place at the Sector 15/16 lights. Babu Ram of Dadu Majra Colony said an auto sped away after hitting his cycle. His wife Shampati (65), who was riding pillion, was injured and rushed to the GMSH-16, from where doctors referred her to the PGI, where she died. In another incident, complainant Ramesh Yadav of Maloya said a truck hit a cyclist, Joginder Yadav, near the Poultry Farm chowk. The injured was rushed to the the GMCH-32, where doctors declared him brought dead. TNS
