A tax consultant was seriously injured after five miscreants allegedly beat him up with cricket bats after barging into his house near Janata Chowk in the wee hours of Thursday.

The miscreants also fired several rounds to terrify him. The police said two parties had an old dispute, which led to the attack. They said he did not suffer any bullet injury, but was badly beaten up and had to be admitted to Indus Hospital. The victim, Arun Sharma, is the brother of a doctor, Anil Sharma.

The incident occurred around 3 am when the assailants knocked at the door of his house. They entered inside and started beating up Arun Sharma They also threatened his son. The suspects also fired at CCTV cameras and damaged the victim’s car.

SP (Rural) Ravjot Kaur Grewal said there were five suspects and three of them had been identified. They had some old dispute regarding court cases. He was thrashed with cricket bats. No gunshot hit him.

“We are checking the CCTV footage and questioning his son and others living in the nearby area. The suspects will be arrested soon,” she said.

A case has been registered under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 450 (house trespass), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and under the Arms Act.
