Flautist weaves magical notes

CHANDIGARH:Music lovers were treated to a rare musical delight by eminent tabla exponent Dr Mahendra Prasad Sharma of Banaras ghrana and acclaimed Kirana ghrana flautist Ravinder Singh in the 26th edition of Baithak Concert organised by the Pracheen Kala Kendra at the ML Koser Indoor auditorium today.

Music lovers were treated to a rare musical delight by eminent tabla exponent Dr Mahendra Prasad Sharma of Banaras ghrana and acclaimed Kirana ghrana flautist Ravinder Singh in the 26th edition of  Baithak Concert organised by the Pracheen Kala Kendra at the ML Koser Indoor auditorium today.

Ravinder created an aura of tranquil musical environment as he unfolded the melodic character of raga Marwa through a brief alaap and jod alaap. He went on to present a slow paced (Vilambat) composition in ek tal which melted to medium pace (Madhyam) and finally the thrilling Drut bandish both in teen tal. He reveled into raga Des through an alaap followed by Madhya laya and Drut lya compositions. On request, he played a dhun in raga ‘Khamaj’ and concluded amidst large applause. Ustad Mehmood Khan articulated the melody meter on tabla.

Earlier, Dr Prasad set the pace by creating complex rhythmic patterns in his opening masterful performance. He commenced his tabla recital with uthan and moved on to present other rhythmic syllables.
