Panchkula, December 11

The number of foreign returnees entering the district has been growing at a rapid pace posing a key challenge for the district health authorities in the wake of Omicron threat.

Since November 26, as many as 872 foreign returnees have arrived in the district. Of them, 817 have been traced.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Mukta Kumar said they had deployed dedicated health teams to deal with the situation. They were involved in tracing and testing returnees, she added.

As per the protocol, it is mandatory for every person coming from abroad to undergo the RT-PCR test and remain in home isolation for the next seven days even if tested negative. After the seven-day quarantine, people would be retested for Covid on the eight day.

For effective monitoring of foreign returnees, residential welfare associations were also being involved, health officials said.

With Omicron still a threat, the district administration is taking all preventive measures to avoid any rise in Covid numbers. The police and incident commanders have been told to challan people without face masks in public places. Covid testing has also been strengthened. — TNS
