Youth gets five-year rigorous imprisonment for attempt to murder

CHANDIGARH:A local court has awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a 20-year-old resident of Dhanas in an attempt to murder case.

A local court has awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a 20-year-old resident of Dhanas in an attempt to murder case. The court also imposed fine of Rs 6,000 on the convict identified as Dalip, alias Kalu.

According to the prosecution, the accused was booked under Sections 323, 326 and 307 of the IPC on December 2, 2018. 

As per the police compliant, two persons suffered injuries with knife at Sector 22-B, Chandigarh, and were taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, for treatment by the PCR vehicle. 

One of the injured identified as Sarwan Singh was discharged after first aid while another injured Parveen Kumar was referred to the PGIMER.

In his statement to the police, Parveen stated that on December 1, 2018, at about 11.15pm, he along with his friend Sarwan Kumar was sleeping in verandah. In the meantime, accused Kalu came there and insisted to sleep with them. When Sarwan opposed him, the accused, who was under the influence of liquor, started beating him. When he tried to intervene, the accused injured the complainant with a sharp weapon. 

When complainant raised an alarm and the accused fled from the spot along with the weapon. On the basis of the complaint, an FIR was registered and investigation was initiated.
