The lure of greener pastures made two youths of Mehta Chowk area fall in the trap of fake travel agents. They returned empty handed four months after leaving for Dubai. The incident occurred in 2016, but the case was registered at the Mehta police station on Saturday. Their family members lodged the complaints with the rural police after the accused didn’t return their money.

“We borrowed the money on huge interest after mortgaging the land we had. We hoped that our financial worries will end once our son is settled abroad,” said Hardeep Singh, father of one of the victims — Kulbir Singh.

The police have booked Kulbir Singh Soni and his brother Sharanjit Singh, both residents from Mehniya Kuhara village. They reside in Dubai.

Hardeep said the accused assured them to arrange two-year visa to work as a driver in Dubai. He took Rs 5 lakh each from Kulbir Singh and Lovejit Singh. However, he provided the visa of a servant. When they raised objection, the accused assured them a change in the visa after reaching there, but that didn’t happen. “Our wards had to wander on roads in Dubai as they didn’t find a job. We arranged for their return tickets after four months,” he said.

The victims demanded return of their money besides arrest of the suspects. The police have registered a case.
