Amritsar, April 19

AAP candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal is hopeful of a sound support from people. Though he agrees that the AAP wave this time lacks the vigour as witnessed during the 2017 Assembly elections in the state, he is optimistic about his success.

Political analysts believe that in the past two years, internal dissension and expulsion of prominent leaders like Sukhpal Singh Khaira have affected the strength of the party.

Dhaliwal said the wave this time was not like that of the last Assembly elections. “But I am a known face among voters. I have been holding public meetings regularly in rural and urban pockets of the district since being nominated party candidate on October 30,” he said. AAP had entered the electoral fray in the state by fielding Daljit Singh in the 2014 General Elections from the local seat. He had garnered about 80,000 votes.

In the 2017 byelections for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, the party had fielded Upkar Singh Sandhu who had secured nearly 1.50 lakh votes.
