Bathinda, February 20

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) employees continued their strike for the third consecutive day today.

They also staged a protest against the Union government outside the BSNL office at Bharat Nagar here. The protesters also took out a protest march near their office and raised slogans against the Centre and the Union Finance Minister.

Addressing the protesters, All India Unions and Associations of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (AUAB) leaders Tara Singh Brar, Manohar Lal, Kulbhushan Jindal and Ram Das Singh Sodhi said BSNL employees had been putting forward their demands, including revision in the pay scale from January 1, 2017, pension share and revision in salaries and pension but the Centre did not take any concrete steps to fulfill these.

They said the Union government claimed that it could not revise salaries as the BSNL was running into losses. But the reality is that the government is busy providing support to private telecom companies and extending all sorts of favours to them at the expense of the BSNL. A number of meetings with top officials of the Ministry of Communications have proved futile, they said. — TNS
