Bathinda, February 17

An employee (munshi) of Malwa Rice Sheller, located near a petrol pump in Ramsara village in Rama Mandi, was kidnapped by two unidentified motorcycle riders on Saturday afternoon.

The kidnappers called a relative of the employee and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh. They also threatened him against going to the police.

After getting information regarding the kidnapping, the Rama police on Sunday registered a case and started a probe into this case.

In the information given to the police, Kothaguru village resident Gurjant Singh has stated that his nephew Gurmeet Singh (45), a resident of the same village who was working at Malwa Rice Sheller, was on his duty on Saturday when the kidnappers called him near the petrol pump and took him to an unidentified place.

Gurjant also stated that after the kidnapping, the miscreants called him from Gurmeet’s phone and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh.

Apart from putting the mobile phone number on tracking, the police also visited the spot, but have failed to secure Gurmeet’s release or get any information regarding the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, SSP Nanak Singh claimed that the police was seriously probing the incident and the kidnappers would soon be traced and the munshi would be brought home safely. — TNS
