Unprecedented rainfall in the Patiala district from the last two days has led to severe crop damage. Farmers claimed that their crop suffered damage due to untimely rain and winds. However, the officials concerned said a girdawari has been conducted and no crop loss was recorded in the region. Procurement agencies also halted procurement for a day.

Balwant Singh, a farmer from Ghanaur said, “My fields got inundated with rainwater. I want the officials concerned to conduct a girdawari for the assessment of crop loss.”

Shawkat Ahmad Parrey, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) said, “We had directed officials to conduct the girdawari. Concerned patwaris submitted reports which state that there has been no major crop loss in the area.”

Harjit Singh Sheru, president, Arhtiya Association Anaj Mandi Patiala said, “The procurement agencies have halted procurement. The mandis will get filled as farmers have started bringing their harvest. ”

Manu Maudgill, from Pungrain said, “We have stopped procurement for today only.  We have given a memorandum to the DC’s office for assessment of the crop which has suffered loss of lustre.” TNS
