The newly formed Law Students Union (LSU) on Monday made the students of the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) skip their classes for two hours as the demands put by the union were not fulfilled.

“The gate of the department was shut for 2 hours by the students, who demanded that the Director of the UILS should address the grievances of the students on protest,” said Hardik Ahluwalia, LSU leader.

The union had submitted a memorandum asking for a concrete parking lot as there are about 500-600 students from the UILS who commute on cars. They also demanded to increase the number of books issued on a library card i.e. from two to four.

“The protest was a success when the Director came to the students and produced a proposal of parking lot which was sent by the Department to Executive Engineer after the LSU had submitted a memorandum to the department,” said Ahluwalia.

Surkhab Singh, former executive DR and a UILS student, said the authorities had agreed on having students as representatives in the meeting of the department which had been scheduled for Tuesday for deliberating on the issue of increasing books and having air conditioners in the classrooms of the UILS.

Gagandeep Singh, LSU member, said the department authorities had agreed to get the washrooms cleaned twice a day.
