The Panjab University Senate will take a call on 42 agenda items, which includes the controversial re-appointment of Bhushan K Sharma, principal of GGDSD College, Sector 32, finalisation of fee structure of international students and NRIs and the issues of girls’ hostel number 10 in its next meeting scheduled to be held on May 26.

This time, the Senate members will deliberate on revising the rent of varsity’s auditoriums, lawns and other venues, a matter that poses concern for both students and professors. In March last year, a committee had made certain recommendations regarding the students of integrated BE-MBA course. Student representatives had demanded to reduce the course period from five-and-a-half years to five years. The issue finds a mention in the Senate’s agenda, along with the former Chief Vigilance officer’s report regarding an allegation raised by Prof VK Chopra about some purchased items, including ACs and coolers. The case was brought up during the Syndicate meeting in September 2017, but was deferred.

The Senate will also decide on the terms and conditions for engagement of guest faculty, along with reviewing the recommendations of a committee regarding conversion of nine posts of demonstrators out of 14 at the Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital in Sector 25.

The Senators will also discuss a committee’s report with reference to acceptance of furniture purchased for boys and girls hostels. They will also decide the fate of a former Senator Munish Verma, accused of cheating the university while deputing three persons as centre and assistant superintendents during the 2014 annual exams.

Of more courses and seats, the varsity awaits Senators’ decision on new courses which got a green signal by the Syndicate, including BA (Hons) and BCom in the Department of Evening Studies and other proposals regarding increase in the number of seats in several courses in the coming session.

The Senate will also take into consideration the gazette notification on implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016 in the varsity.

It will call the shots on UGC regulations for promotions under CAS for PU teachers and those appointed with its affiliated colleges.

Along with several recommendations about the Panjab University Sports Committee and the Panjab University Youth Welfare Committee, the Senators will take a call on extension to PU Dean University Instructions Shankarji Jha and several others.
