CHANDIGARH: Shrawasti overpowered Kritika 5-2 to storm into the semifinals of the girls’ U-10 category on the opening day of the Roots Open Tennis Championship here today.

Shrawasti overpowered Kritika 5-2 to storm into the semifinals of the girls’ U-10 category on the opening day of the Roots Open Tennis Championship here today.

Vanshika Yadav also recorded an easy (5-2) win against Saanvi Sharma, while Ekam Kaur eased past Ananya Walia (5-1). In the last match, Vadesha recorded a 5-4 win against Divyanshi Goyal. In the quarterfinals of the girls’ U-12 category, Sidhak Kaur toppled Tanvi Kohli 5-2. Innaya Mittal ousted Ananya Walia 5-3, while Chhavi Saini defeated Hitanshi 5-3. Shrawasti entered the semifinals by defeating Akshdha 5-1.

Top seed Samarvir Garg defeated Bhavya 6-2 to reach the semis of the boys’ U-14 category. Arjun Singh beat Manan Tejwani 6-4, while Om Kaushik defeated Yogik without conceding a single game. Second seed Anuj Pal also recorded a 6-0 win against Tanmay.

In the boys’ U-10 quarterfinals, Guhaan Mehta beat Anhad 5-2, while Dhruv defeated Manan Dhir 5-3. Jaskirat Singh recorded a 5-0 verdict against Vaibhav, while Param Sidana defeated Yash 5-1. Shorya reached the semifinals of the boys’ U-12 category by defeating Jaskirat Singh 5-2. Anuj Pal and Divyam Sharma registered 5-0 wins over Guhaan Mehta and Param Sidana, respectively. Daksh Kapoor defeated Iaran 5-1.—TNS
