Unknown person booked for swindling woman

CHANDIGARH: An unknown person has been booked for duping a woman of Rs 49,000.

Chandigarh, April 18

An unknown person has been booked for duping a woman of Rs 49,000. The incident was reported in November 2018. However, a case in this regard was registered on April 17.

According to the police, the victim had gone to State Bank of India in Sector 7 here to deposit Rs 49,000 in her public provident fund (PPF) account on November 19.

The police said that an unknown person approached the victim and asked her to deposit the money through a deposit machine installed in the bank.

The victim, assuming the suspect as a bank employee, went up to the machine with him after he offered to help her.

After taking the money, the suspect tricked her and escaped from the spot. The victim later came to know that he was a swindler.

The matter was reported to the police. Later, a case was registered at the Sector 26 police station after investigation.
