2 babies die during delivery

Two deaths of babies during delivery have been reported from Nawanshahr.

The Civil Hospital does not have any gynaecologist. One case was reported today in which the chords were allegedly pressed which resulted in the death of the child. Civil Surgeon Gurinder Kaur Chawla, however, said the baby was premature, which resulted in the death.

Two days ago, another death was reported during delivery. The Civil Surgeon said it was due to the rupture of the membrane due to which the heartbeat of the baby had stopped.

She said in both cases, gynaecologist was not there. Gynaecologist from other stations had been given extra charge of Nawanshahr on a temporary basis.

“We have written to the head office to give us a gynaecologist,” she said. — TNS
