Jalandhar, January 14
Mayor Jagdish Raja held a meeting today over buying of 24 tractor-trailers, six tippers and two ditch machines and their functioning. In the F&CC meeting held on January 9, one of the agenda included the requirement of tractor-trailers and labourers for cleanliness and solid waste management, but the proposal was put on hold by the Mayor.
For the Jalandhar (North) and Jalandhar (West) constituencies, there is a requirement of as many as six tractor-trailers fitted with the GPS system while seven are needed for Jalandhar Central and six for Jalandhar Cantt. Notably, tenders were floated for the same but till now,
the proposal has not been finalised. The provision of tractor-trailers, along with labourers, is important for the cleanliness of the city and solid waste management.
The Mayor said it was being taken into consideration that the tractor-trailers would be allotted to councillors and the same would remain with them and they would be responsible for the functioning of the vehicles.
“The councillors would check that how the tractor-trailers were being functioning. Many times, the whereabouts of the vehicles are not even known, which becomes problematic,” he said, adding that the final decision in this regard would be taken tomorrow. — TNS
