Dilip Kumar, who embodied melancholy on screen, dies at 98 on Wednesday.

Dilip Kumar, one of India's most respected actors and known for his roles as a tragic hero, died on Wednesday morning.

Born Mohammed Yusuf Khan in 1922 in Peshawar, now in Pakistan, he was known by the screen name of Dilip Kumar once he joined Bollywood in the 1940s. Kumar was 98 and was ailing for some time.
