Rohtak, June 23

A CIA team of the district police nabbed two criminals after a brief encounter on the Sunaria road near the district jail here in the wee hours on Sunday.

One of the criminals suffered bullet injuries in the leg during the crossfire. He is undergoing treatment at the PGIMS.

Two pistols and seven live cartridges have been seized from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Pankaj of Naya Padav Mohalla here and Mohit alias Shooter of Chuliana village here. They had assaulted a retired sub-inspector (SI) of the Haryana Police, Hukam Singh Narwal, in Peepal Wali Gali here on June 19 when the latter was out for a walk.

Besides it, the duo had been involved in several cases of loot, dacoity and manhandling in Jhajjar, Jind, Gurugram and Rohtak districts, said Dr Anshul Singla, Executive Superintendent of Police (SP).

Singla maintained Pankaj was wanted in more than five criminal cases and was also declared proclaimed offender. The CIA team, while carrying out patrolling in the city, got a tip-off that two criminals were in a room located in the fields on Sunaria Road.

“Acting on the tip-off, the CIA team surrounded the room and warned the duo to come out. One of them opened fire on the policemen and tried to escape from back door. The miscreants again opened fire on the policemen when the latter chased them. The policemen retaliated and a bullet pierced the leg of Pankaj who fell down. Later, Mohit was also nabbed,” she added.
