Faridabad, January 20

With minimum temperatures remaining below normal in many areas this winter, an animal shelter in the city has been keeping its inmates warm with bonfires. Anil Dubey, an activist of People for Animals, said the bonfires have been a regular feature for the past about a month at the shelter which is home to around 95 animals, including stray cattle, dogs and monkeys. “Around 100 kg wood is procured daily to ensure heating facility for stray animals and cattle at the shelter. The bonfires are put off at night for safety reasons,” he said. The shelter near Sarurpur village in the city’s NIT area provides food, medical care and sterilization programme and creates awareness about the need to take care of stray animals, Dubey said.
