Four labourers died and one critically injured at a construction site of residential society Emaar Palm Heights, Sector 77, on Tuesday when a tower crane broke down and all five fell down.

While four died on spot, one is being treated in a hospital.

The police officials and district town planner reached the spot after receiving information.

Suresh Kumar, ACP, Manesar, said it seems a result of negligence and action will be taken as per the law after receiving complaint.

According to the police, the incident happened at 5.10 pm when the labourers were busy at the 17th floor to fix the tower crane by welding outer temporary lift which was used to lift the construction materials.

An iron angle broke down and all five labourers fell down.

Four fell on ground while one of them was stuck at 12th floor. All were critically injured. After getting information a police team reached the spot and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital where four were declared as brought dead.

According to the police the deceased identified as Mohammad Tahmid, Kamod, Naveen and Parmesar, natives of Kisanganj, Bihar. They were working on the site for the last many months.

“The residential society in Sector 77 developed by Emaar builder and contractor is JJRS company. The duty magistrate and police team visited the spot and action will be taken as per the law,” said ACP Suresh Kumar.

According to preliminary investigation, there was no safety equipment at the site for the labourers. All five were welders and busy in fixing of tower crane when the incident happened.

An Emaar spokesperson said, “We deeply regret the unfortunate and tragic incident and empathise with the victims. Our thoughts are prayers are with the families of the deceased.

The accident took place during construction closeout work by the contractor, in a completed tower in Palm Heights. We are further investigating the unfortunate incident along with our contractor to understand the cause of this incident.”
