Vote, make your day special: DC

Karnal: Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vinay Pratap Singh on Sunday exhorted voters, who have birthday on the same day of polling on May 12, to make the day more special by casting their votes. He was on Sunday chairing a meeting with some voters under Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), which was launched by the Election Commission of India to inform, educate, motivate and facilitate voters. The DC also administered oath to such voters to cast their votes fearlessly by keeping aside all factors such as caste, religion, region and others. The DC appealed to them to motivate other voters to cast their votes. "We have made all arrangements to conduct fair Lok Sabha elections in Karnal. Meanwhile, the authorities made voters aware about EVM and VVPAT machines.

Promoting gender equality

Rohtak: To inculcate scientific temperament and entrepreneurial skills among young women and promote gender equality in local communities, the department of microbiology at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, organised a strategic workshop on the university campus. Prof Pratyoosh Shukla, head of the department, explained the conference theme. Prof Rup Lal, an entrepreneur, said the contribution of women in the economic development should be increased for an emphatic growth of the country. Charu Dogra Rawat cited several examples, in which women entrepreneurs had given a tough competition to their male counterparts in business. Sanjukta Subudhi took up a case study of Vishakha Raina, who became a successful entrepreneur after starting her career as a faculty member at KIIT, Bhubaneswar. Dr Anital Santal proposed the vote of thanks.

Heat affecting poll campaign!

Faridabad: The hot weather condition is proving detrimental to the ongoing poll campaign of various parties or candidates and has forced a change in campaign timings. Intense heat wave has forced campaigners to shift the time of their meetings and house-to-house contact. "We have decided to organise public or corner meetings either before 11 am or after 5 pm in the evening due to extremely hot weather," said a supporter of a candidate from here. The road show and a public meeting of two other candidates, which was earlier planned in the city here around noon, were postponed to 5 pm on Sunday due to hot weather conditions.
