Gurugram, June 21
A group of unidentified men have been booked for allegedly impersonating as local SHO and issuing threats and seeking bribe.
The contact number of the SHO of Sector 40 is public and the accused had forwarded their calls to his official number to authenticate themselves. All officers in the Gurugram have been provided the SIM card of the same series.
The cyber criminals started using his number through a call forwarding application to dupe people.
In his complaint, Inspector Satish Kumar, SHO of Sector 40 police station, said he had received calls from multiple people, stating that they had received abusive calls from my number.
“On June 20, a call came from Rajasthan. The caller identified himself as Navpreet and said I had called him to tell him that a case was registered against him and had referred him to a lawyer to settle the case, for which I had asked Rs 63,000,” the SHO said.
An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons under Sections 417 and 419 of Indian Penal Code.
