Honeypreet bail plea dismissed as withdrawn

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday dismissed as withdrawn a plea filed by Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday dismissed as withdrawn a plea filed by Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. She was seeking release on bail in a case registered after violence broke out in Panchkula on August 25, 2017.

In her plea placed before the Bench of Justice Amol Rattan Singh, Honeypreet had submitted that she was with the dera chief inside the court complex in Panchkula that at the time of violence in Panchkula and thereafter left for Sunaria jail in Rohtak with the dera chief. Her counsel stated that she had no role in the violence and her name was subsequently added by the police.

Honeypreet had submitted that she was not arrested, but had surrendered before the police in October 2017. Her counsel submitted that around 15 other accused facing similar allegations in the same case had already been granted bail.
