Karnal, February 16
Taking a serious note of the alleged violation of the Sikh code of conduct at Sri Panjokhara Sahib Gurdwara, Ambala, where reports of consuming tobacco and alcohol have come to light in the rooms of the shrine, Bhupinder Singh Assandh, president of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), has suspended the manager of the gurdwara.
Akal Takht had yesterday directed the HSGMC to evict police and paramilitary personnel from gurdwara inns in view of the farmers’ agitation.
Assandh expressed disappointment at finding objectionable material like empty bottles of liquor and pouch of tobacco in rooms given to the security forces. “The security personnel should have respected the sanctity of the ‘Guru ghar.’ It was the duty of the manager and other employees deputed there to make security personnel aware of the sanctity of the gurdwara. There was negligence on the part of the manager, so he has been suspended. Both employees on duty on the premises have been transferred,” he said.
“A committee has been formed to inquire into the issue and submit a report within five days,” he said, adding that they had already evicted the security personnel.
“The HSGMC is farmer-friendly, and all possible cooperation will be provided to them. Arrangements will also be made for them in the gurdwara,” said Assandh.
