Sonepat, February 10

People in Sonepat district have raised their voice against the announcement of farmers’ Delhi march scheduled to be held on February 13. They have said that the farmers from Punjab should not gather at the Kundli border.

At a meeting, local people, including representatives of farm organisations, khaps, industrialists and sarpanches, appealed to the police and the district administration to ensure that the previous situation was not repeated this time.

Commissioner of Police B Satheesh Balan presided over the meeting, while Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar and other officers were also present on the occasion.

Bajitpur Saboli sarpanch Sunil Kataria, Nathupur sarpanch Rakesh, Antil khap president Hawa Singh Antil and others said the agitating Punjab farmers should not be allowed to reach the Sonepat border as the district had suffered huge losses during the previous movement. The local residents had to face a lot of problems at that time.

Kundli Industrial Association president Dheeraj Chaudhary and Rai Industrial Association president Rakesh Devgun have also opposed the farmers’ agitation saying the industrialists had suffered huge losses last time.

Commissioner Balan assured the people that law and order would be maintained on priority and that the police were fully prepared to deal with any untoward situation. Balan and DC Manoj Kumar also held a meeting with officials of the district administration and the police on the issue.
