Shimla, September 15

The Himachal Government has thrown open the borders as now onwards no e-pass or registration would be required to enter the state.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here today. However, in view of the sharp increase in Covid cases and related fatalities, it was decided not to resume inter-state public transport.

The Cabinet in its last meeting had decided to extend the mandatory registration on the Covid portal for all those keen to enter the state till September 15. With today’s Cabinet decision anybody, be it a native of Himachal or a tourist, could enter the state freely.

The decision comes at a time when record eight deaths took place in the state today and the total cases surged past the 10,000 mark. Though separate SOPs have been put in place for tourists, with the opening of bthe orders now, the state is likely to give free access to everyone.

Though public opinion was in favour of continuing restrictions keeping in view the Cental government’s policy, Himachal has been forced to throw open its barriers for the free movement of people and goods.
