Hoshiarpur, February 22
A motorcyclist was killed after he was hit by a tipper on the Chaggaran bridge here on Chandigarh Road today.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Deepak, son of Bhagchander and resident of Bajwara.
The deceased’s elder brother Jodha, who was riding pillion with Deepak, also suffered injuries. After receiving information, the police reached the spot and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Family members of the deceased said Deepak used to look after the temple with the priest in the village.
On Saturday morning, he, along with his elder brother Jodha, went to Bajrawar village to meet their sister.
When they were returning, Deepak lost control over the motorcycle while overtaking a tipper on the Chaggar Bridge. The motorcycle was hit by the tipper due to which the deceased fell on the road. He died due to a serious head injury.
After the accident, the tipper driver fled the spot along with the vehicle. Based on the statements of Jodha, the police have registered an FIR against the unidentified tipper driver under Sections 279, 304-A and 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). — OC
