Ludhiana: The department of computer science of Arya College for Girls organised an I-T exhibition, in which 50 students participated. Students showcased a variety of models on topics such as 3-D hologram, cybercrime, bus topology, digital transaction, processing of payment and card transaction. Principal Savita Uppal appreciated the efforts of students and thanked the department for organising such an event.

Philanthropic drive at Kamla Lohtia

A philanthropic drive, Maanavta, was organised at Kamla Lohtia SD College by the entrepreneurship development cell and international business society of the postgraduate department of commerce and management. The donation drive had been organised consecutively for the fourth year now with the purpose to provide help to the under privileged section of society. Students donated various articles such as clothes, shoes and other household utility items apart from cash. Stationery items were also donated by students for the needy schoolchildren.

Swachhta pakhwada observed

GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, observed Swachhta Pakhwada Abhiyan from January 27 to February 10 under the guidance of principal Jaswant Singh and NSS in-charges. The drive commenced with a ‘swachhta’ pledge, in which volunteers promised to keep their surroundings clean. As part of the campaign, awareness lectures on cleanliness and water conservation were also held. The principal quoted various examples about how efficient conversion of waste could generate wealth. A rally on the theme of ‘saving environment’ was taken out at Ghuman village while tree plantation and cleanliness drives were conducted at Tusa village.

KCW students shine in PU exam

The Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, achieved outstanding results in MA Semester-I examinations, results of which were declared by Panjab University, Chandigarh. As many as seven students have placed their names in the top ten. Sugandha Jain bagged first position in the university by scoring 94.2 per cent, Nikita Arora secured third position with 92.2 per cent, Monika stood fourth with 91.5 per cent, Jasmine Jawanda bagged fifth position with 91 per cent, Amrit Kaur bagged sixth position with 90.2 per cent, Rakhi Jain stood seventh with 88.7 per cent and Niharika Jain bagged eighth position with 88.2 per cent.

Industrial visit to knitting firm

An industrial visit to Vardhman Nisshinbo Group Company Limited, Ludhiana, was organised for the students of Department of Business Management and Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town. As many as 53 students visited the industry, where they were told about various stages of the production process of shirts. They also visited other departments such as fabric store, trim and cutting store, storage, warehouse and assembly sections. Students were exposed to various practical aspects of producing threads, baking process of SSP fabric, fabric selection and quality control techniques.

MA (Music Vocal) Sem-I results

Students of Ramgarhia Girls College performed brilliantly in MA (Music Vocal) Semester-I examinations, results of which were declared by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Tanishq Kaur Anand stood fourth in the university with 79.5 per cent, Harmandeep Kaur bagged fifth position in the university with 78 per cent, Daljeet Kaur secured sixth position with 77 per cent, Damanpreet Kaur placed herself at seventh with 76.5 per cent, Shivani got eighth position with 76 per cent, Ramjan Bibi secured ninth position by scoring 75.5 per cent, Priyanka bagged ninth position with 75.5 per cent and Komal got 10th position with 75 per cent.

Seminar on digital economics

The department of computer applications of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines, in association with Chamber of Small and Medium I-T Organisations, organised an interactive seminar on “Introduction to blockchain and digital economics”. Blockchain expert Navroop K Sahdev, founder and CEO, The Digital Economist, was the guest speaker for the day. She highlighted the importance of blockchan and mentioned how it was gaining momentum. She elaborated on transactional transparency and how blockchain had the potential to improve cyber security, digital identity and audit trails.

Students pledge to end corruption

The postgraduate department of commerce and business management of Arya College, in collaboration with the Vigilance Bureau of Punjab, organised an extension lecture on ‘Working together to eradicate corruption’. Gautam Singal, SSP, Vigilance Bureau, Economic Offences Wing, Punjab, was the keynote speaker of the day. He said the youth needed to be united and determined to fight corruption. He laid emphasis on the importance of awaring citizens of their rights. During the concluding ceremony, students took a pledge to fight corruption.

CTU holds athletics meet

The third annual athletics meet of CT University concluded at the campus. The meet was organised by the department of sports and inaugurated by Chancellor Charanjit Singh Channi and Vice Chancellor Harsh Sadawarti. Students from all schools of the university participated in various events such as races, long jump, relay, shot put, tug-of-war, among other games. School of Humanities and Physical Education lifted the overall trophy of the meet while School of Engineering and Technology grabbed the first runner-up position followed by School of Management and Business Studies. The Vice Chancellor, managing director Manbir Singh and directorate of sports Praveen Kumar congratulated the winners. TNS
