Lieutenant- Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Thursday administered oath to the newly appointed chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission, BR Sharma, at Raj Bhawan here.

Sharma, a retired IAS Officer, earlier served as the chairman, Staff Selection Commission. A 1984-batch IAS officer, BR Sharma, served as the Chief Secretary in the Jammu and Kashmir Government from September 7, 2015, to April 28, 2017. He was later appointed the Adviser to the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on administrative affairs.

He has a wide-ranging administrative experience spanning over three-and-a-half decades. After cracking the IAS exam in 1984, he was appointed the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in 1986. During the 1996 Assembly and parliamentary elections, he served as the District Development Commissioner of north Kashmir’s volatile Kupwara.
