Jalandhar, January 17

Members of the 1984 Sikh Katle Aam Peerat Welfare Society on Friday raised the demand for compensation and jobs for Sikh families uprooted during the 1984 Sikh genocide. They also demanded action against the culprits.

Addressing a press conference here, leaders said as many as 26,000 families were uprooted from their homes after the 1984 Sikh genocide and came to the state of Punjab. We appeal to the PM to provide Rs 5 lakh grant to each of the families and jobs to their unemployed children.

Citing the Justice Rajiv Dhingra report and 186 cases of FIR against Congress leaders and police officials, the activists said details of some cases had been misplaced. But, they said in the rest of cases of atrocities against families who suffered during the 1984 massacre, the cases hadn’t been taken to logical conclusion and investigation hadn’t been completed. They demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

Gurdev Singh (chairman), Jagir Singh Pradhan (Gurdaspur), Daljit Singh (secretary), Kulddep S Kohli, Mukhvinder and Bibi Charanjit Kaur demanded compensation and action against the culprits.
