Patwaris go on two-day leave

Phagwara: Folowing a state-level call given by the Patwar Union, all patwaris and kanungos went on a two-day leave throughout the state on Thursday, in protest against the misconduct meted out to patwaris by Praneet, Deputy Commissioner, Bathinda.

35 families join Congress

Phagwara: The Congress got a shot in the arm in Phagwara, when over 35 families of Harbanspur and Jagjitpur villages, belonging to the SAD, announced to join the Congress on Thursday. Former minister Joginder Singh Maan and Congress leader, Satbir Singh Walia, welcomed the families.—TNS

Purse stolen

Phagwara: A purse containing 1.70 lakh and gold ornaments, was found stolen during a marriage function at a marriage palace here on Tuesday night. The police have registered a case and are scanning the CCTV footage of the marriage palace.—OC

Two killed in road mishaps

Phagwara: An Amritsar-based resident, Shamsher Singh, who was working as a security guard at Haweli Restaurant, Phagwara, was killed on the spot when a speeding vehicle hit him in front of the restaurant, near Khajurala village, on Wednesday night. The driver of the vehicle managed to flee. The police have registered a case. OC
