Jalandhar, January 17

The Punjab and UT Mulazim Sangharsh Committee staged a protest against the state government and burnt its effigy outside the District Administrative Complex here on Friday. The protesters raised slogans against the government for not paying heed to their demands.

They said the state government promised that contractual employees would be made permanent and remaining amount of dearness allowance (DA) would also be released, but no demands were met. “They say our demands are genuine but don’t fulfil any promise,” said one of the committee members. “Now that Vidhan Sabha session is going on, we thought of holding a protest,” said president of the committee.

He said the committee had around 700 members. “Employees from various departments such as Health Department, Punjab Roadways, Education Department and PSPCL are part of the committee,” he said.
