R-Day celebrated at educational institutions with patriotic zeal

Ahead of the Republic Day, patriotic fervour has set on the school and college campuses across the city.

Guru Nanak Dev University College, Ladhewali

To mark the 70th Republic Day, an inter-college patriotic song competition was held in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Guru Nanak Dev University College, Ladhewali, here today. Around 10 colleges participated in the competition and sang patriotic songs from Hindi films. Audience sang along with the participants. Slogans like ‘Vande Matram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ set the right momentum for the competition.

Jatinder Singh from CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur got the first prize, Rahul from CT-IMT got the second prize, while Savinder Kaur Gill from GNDU Regional Campus got the third prize. Arshdeep Singh from Layallpur Khalsa College was given a special appreciation prize.

State awardee in folk songs Bahadur Singh Chadha, vice- principal, LR Doaba College and Sukhjinder Alfaz, singer and music director were the judges for the occasion. Expressing their views, both applauded the efforts of the department for organising such a patriotic competition and also congratulated the participants on giving such flawless performances.

Dr Namarta Joshi, HoD, while addressing the gathering emphasised on the need to redefine the Nationalism. She further praised all participants and commended the winners. Dr Charan Kamal Walia, Sukriti, Savita, Nivedita, Jatinder, Sukhmani and Rama Shankar were also present on the occasion.

Delhi Public School

A special assembly was held at Delhi Public School, Jalandhar, to celebrate the 71st Republic Day of India. The well-planned celebrations by the students were an enlightening and elevating experience for all present.

The celebrations began with the recital of a special prayer ‘Hope for a Better Nation’. It was followed by the pledge ‘Promising to be a better citizen’ taken by students to remind them of their duties towards their country. A dance performance on a medley of patriotic songs filled all hearts with the spirit of love for motherland.

A student choir enlivened the celebrations with calming tunes that reminded and motivated the students how rich our country is and to work to take the country to newer heights and fulfil the aspirations of our heroes of freedom struggle.

A student shared enlightening facts about the country on the special occasion and another student spoke from a soldier’s heart reminding all about the selfless service of the Indian Armed Forces. Heart touching poems ‘Shaheed’ and ‘Chal Uth Talaash mein’ were well-recited by another two students.

The celebrations concluded with the recital of the ‘National Anthem’.

Eklavya School

Eklavya School celebrated the Republic Day on its school premises. Jasleen Kaur of Class VII delivered a speech on the Republic Day in order to make the children aware of the importance of the day. Primary school children gave spectacular dance performance on the song ‘Ae Watan’. Model Town Campus Students also Sang a song ‘Aao Bachcho Tumhe Dikhaye Zaki Hindustan Ki” with enthusiasm. Hula Hoop activity was performed by middle school students. The students were given tri-coloured badges. The school was decorated with tri- coloured balloons, ribbons, hangings, flags and kites. The senior school children did slogan writing and poster making on ‘Proud To Be An Indian’, and ‘Vande Matram’.

Finally all assembled bowed to our national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, a perfect tribute to our motherland.Director Seema Handa enthralled the children with inspirational stories and reiterated the need for being resolute in our path to achieve our goals.

Principal Arvinder Kaur threw light on various tasks to be undertaken by the present students who are the future citizens of the country and released colourful balloons and joined the Republic Day celebrations.
