Jalandhar, July 26

The Jalandhar Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday nabbed Sham Singh, Junior Engineer, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Alawalpur, red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for installation of a power transformer.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar, Diljinder Singh Dhillon said the accused JE was arrested on the complaint of one Tarlochan Singh of Sarmasatpur village. The complainant approached the Vigilance and said he was a marginal farmer and had applied for a transformer of agricultural power supply for his tubewell.

The complainant alleged the JE had already completed the work, but demanded Rs 15,000 as bribe but the deal was stuck at Rs 10,000.

The SSP said after verification of his allegations a VB team laid a trap and the accused was arrested on the spot while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his pocket in the presence of two official witnesses. He added that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at PS VB Jalandhar and further investigation is under progress.
