National Conference senior leader Ajay Sadhotra alleged that farmers were the worst sufferers under the BJP rule in the country as the party had ignored their problems.
He said the cost of farming had gone up while the returns were low.
Addressing a public meeting at Gajansoo in the Marh Assembly constituency, Sadhotra said the cost of seeds and fertilizers had increased manifold. “There is a shortage of water for irrigation, electricity is not available and the BJP-led governments in the country and in the state had been insensitive towards these issues,” he added.
“The government needs to take steps to increase return or farmers will give up farming and the country, especially the state, will suffer,” Sadhotra added.
The NC leader said the BJP-PDP ruled the state for over three years but they did nothing for farmers. It was the result of the ignorant attitude of the government that farmers were forced to end their lives, he added.
