Srinagar, August 13
The female workers of the health and family welfare department on Monday protested against the non-payment of their salaries by the government.
Dozens of female multipurpose health workers carrying banners assembled at the Press Enclave, demanding the release of their salaries.
“For the past four months, the government has not released our salaries. It has badly affected the education of our children,” said Nayeema Bano, a protester.
Over the years, nearly 3,000 female multipurpose health workers have been engaged in the health and family welfare department for taking healthcare to the grass-roots level.
They alleged that the state government was misusing and diverting the funds for salaries and grants to unknown projects.
Health and family welfare department director Dr Samir Mattoo said he had taken up the issue of the pending salaries of the female multipurpose health workers with the government. “I am hopeful their salaries will be released soon,” Dr Mattoo added.
