Jammu, June 7
The University of Jammu (JU) on Friday organised an awareness meet to sensitise supervisors and sanitary inspectors about the air pollution caused by burning of waste.
The meeting was organised in collaboration with the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and INTACH, Jammu chapter.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar highlighted the role of individuals in controlling air pollution. He said, “Now, the time has come when citizens,besides the agencies concerned, need to take a concrete action rather than just having discussions through seminars.”
The resource persons, namely Dr CM Seth; Prof Anil K Raina from environmental sciences department of the JU; Dr Yash Paul, senior scientist of the J&K State Pollution Control Board; and Jorawar Singh of the JMC spoke on different aspects of air pollution. A formal vote of thanks was presented by SM Sahini, convenor, INTACH, Jammu chapter. —TNS
