JAMMU:To fix the responsibility and avoid any untoward situation due to provocative messages on the social media, the district administration has asked all administrators to register their Whatsapp groups with the police within two days.

To fix the responsibility and avoid any untoward situation due to provocative messages on the social media, the district administration has asked all administrators to register their Whatsapp groups with the police within two days.

  In an order issued here on Friday, District Magistrate, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar has directed all administrators to enable “only admins can send messages” till February in the first instance and register their group at the nearest police station within two days.

The order reads, “The district police has reported that various irresponsible messages are being transmitted, forwarded and circulated on the social media in Jammu district.”

“Therefore, to avoid such type of activities on Whatsapp/Facebook and for proper maintenance of law and order in the district, I, Ramesh Kumar, DM, Jammu, invokes the powers vested in me under Section 144 of the CrPC and order that every social media group administrator shall register his group with the SHO concerned within two days,” the order further reads.
