Mahabharat actor Satish Kaul passes away


After prolonged illness since last year and Covid-19 complications, the Kashmiri actor, Satish Kaul, died on Saturday in Ludhiana. He had won the Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to Punjabi cinema in 2011. Tested positive for coronavirus, he was admitted to Shri Rama Charitable Hospital, Ludhiana on Thursday. He was 73.

The Mahabharat actor, who played Lord Indra in the epic drama, had previously made headlines for his financial woes amidst the pandemic and lockdown last year. Although he worked in both Hindi and Punjabi film industry, but it was his work in Punjabi movies that turned him into a successful actor. He has hits like Maula Jatt, Sassi Punnu, Ishq Nimana, Suhag Chooda and Patola to his credit and his exemplary work in Ram Lakhan, Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, Aunty No 1, Zanjeer, Yaraana and Elaan had won him recognition in Hindi speaking belt and he was often referred to as the Amitabh Bachchan of Punjabi Cinema.

Celebrity chef Kunal Kapur writes, “#SatishKaul, the Mahabharata actor passed away. These Mahabharata, Nukkad, Ramayana characters are so much a part of our lives, we have grown seeing them everyday! #RIP” Ashoke Pandit, filmmaker and activist, paid homage to the late actor via tweet, “Sad to know about the demise of well-known actor of Hindi & Punjabi films Satish Kaul in #Ludhiana due to #Covid19. Om Shanti!”
