Vir Das’ monologue at Kennedy Center, US on duality of India has drawn attention as well as a complaint

On Monday night, Vir Das uploaded a 6.54-minute-long video, I Come From Two Indias, which has been shared and talked about as you read.

Call it a monologue or a poem, but the stand-up comedian has once again used all the right words just like his 2020 Netflix special, Vir Das: For India which has earned him an Emmy nomination in Comedy segment. The recent act of Vir was no different as it has won praises and also raised eyebrows. Much like the duality of India he was talking about.

Vir Das, who was touring America and was performing at the famous John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington DC, spoke about his latest act which he had been writing for quite some time, as confessed by the comedian.

A sold-out show and overwhelming emotions of performing at a place with so much history, the video will also go down in history as celebs like Nakuul Mehta and Shruti Seth re-shared the video on their social media handles. Youth-friendly pages such as @weareyuvaa and @socialmediadissect were quick to share the word on Instagram. The latter posted, “Pointing out the confusing hypocrisies that exist in our country, Vir Das’ video is doing rounds on the internet for all the right reasons!”

The actor was trending on Twitter at number two on Tuesday evening. As he would be returning to India post his tour, a complaint was also filed against ‘comedian’ Vir Das for ‘defaming and spoiling the image of India in the USA’. As he picked up subjects ranging from rape culture to true journalism to PM Cares funds to farmers’ protest, it was highly unlikely that it would have gone down well with everybody. His concluding statement was, "I leave you tonight and go back to that India. Which India will I go back to? Both of them. Which India am I proud of? One of them. Which India is proud of me? None of them. But I wanted to do this because we are at the Kennedy Center. This is a dream for artistes.” — Sheetal
